Webinar series on EO Supporting Nature Conservation
“EO Supporting Nature Coonservation” is a webinar series focusing on the diverse and evolving satellite technologies available for conservation management. The webinar series took place in Autumn 2024.
Organised by Eurosite, the European network for conservation practitioners, in collaboration with the European Space Agency’s Stakeholder Engagement Facility (ESA SEF project), this series offers a comprehensive look at how satellite applications can enhance conservation efforts.
Topics include habitat mapping, CAP monitoring, and carbon stock assessment. Each 1-hour session is designed to be interactive, allowing conservation professionals to engage with remote sensing experts and organisations pioneering and testing these latest technological advancements in the sector.
Webinar 1: Habitat Mapping
Date: Monday, 28 October 2024, 14:00-15:00 CET
The first webinar will provide a general introduction, followed by an in-depth exploration of habitat mapping and monitoring, with a focus on specific ecosystems such as wetlands, peatlands, and grasslands. Participants will learn from established applications and the results of various projects that demonstrate the practical use of satellite technology in these areas.
AGENDA & SPEAKERS
- Introductory remarks by ESA SEF project and Eurosite
- Topic introduction: “Habitats mapping” by Geoff Smith, Specto Natura, EU Grassland Watch
- Two case studies:
- Panel Discussion with Eurosite members and remote sensing experts
- Q&A Session
